Growth Implants for Suckling and Growing Beef Cattle - FSA3019
نویسنده
چکیده
To a great extent, animal growth is regulated by the pituitary gland and its secretions of growth hormone (somatotropin). Implants work by increasing (via the pituitary gland) growth hormone and insulin at the cellular level, which results in increased synthesis of muscle tissue and, frequently, reduced deposition of body fat. This causes a measurable increase in growth rate and improved feed efficiency.

Growth-Promoting Implants for Beef Cattle
Growth-promoting implants offer beef cattle producers a safe and effective way to increase calf weight gains. Implants increase production of muscle tissue and often reduce body fat production. This results in significant improvements in both growth rate and feed efficiency. Despite the proven benefits of implant use, only 11.9 percent of beef cattle operations surveyed by the National Animal H...
متن کاملImplants For Growth Promotion In Beef Cattle
F beef cattle management practices are more cost effective or have a higher return on investment than properly used growth promoting implants. Growth promoting implants are pellets that are implanted under the skin of the ear of growing calves. These pellets release extremely low concentrations of various hormones, which improve average daily gain 7 to 17 percent and feed efficiency 4 to 12 per...

Trenbolone acetate (TBA), the active compound in Finaplix implants, is a synthetic steroid that is used for promotion of growth of beef cattle. By itself, TBA exerts only moderate effects on growth, performance and carcass characteristics of steers and heifers. When used in combination with estrogen(E)-containing implants, TBA results in dramatically increased growth, improved feed conversion e...
متن کاملGenetic parameters for growth, reproductive performance, calving ease and suckling performance in beef cattle heifers
There is considerable concern about the consequences on fitness-related traits of using narrow breeding objectives for production traits. The aim of this study was to assess the potential consequences of selection for growth in French beef cattle breeds by estimating genetic correlations between growth, reproduction, calving and suckling traits of Charolais, Limousin and Blonde d’Aquitaine heif...
متن کاملEffect of weather patterns on preweaning growth of beef calves in the Northern Great Plains
Records from a 76-year investigation into effects of line breeding and selection of Hereford cattle, and concurrent weather records, were used to assess effects of weather patterns on growth of suckling calves. Calf growth data were adjusted for trends arising from selection and inbreeding, and for effects of age of dam and sex of calf to produce clean estimates of year effects. Daily maximum a...
